Sri Jagannath

The Lord of the Universe – Jagannath is the Lord Purushottama who is supreme over inconsistent things and eternal. He is none other than Lord Krishna, worshipped in Puri, the holy place in Orissa with the hymn “Om Namo Bhagavate Vaasudevaaya.” The tradition in Puri is this: One should worship Lord Siva first to be followed by prayers to Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Krishna and then Lord Krishna, in other words Jagannath and then to Subhadra, the sister of Lord Krishna. Jagannath is the God of the people. High and low are enjoined to eat in the Puri temple together. In the presence of the Lord, all are equal as all barriers of caste, race and faith are transcended. Puri is the only holy place in India where all three – Balarama, Subhadra and Jagannath (Lord Krishna) are worshipped together.
